Olympiad for amateur skippers was held at the exhibition Moscow Boat Show-2009

Russian Association of Yacht Skippers / RAY held a number of events February 8 within the frames of the Second International Exhibition Moscow Boat Show.

Association managers told about the results of RAY and yachting school operation in 2008, expeditions scheduled for 2009. Graduators of the Russian Association of Yacht Skippers yachting school were granted Master of Yacht Limited inshore certificates. The graduators are looking forward to offshore course and new discoveries.

The inshore round of the Olympiad Yachting Captain for yachting schools graduators and students and amateur skippers with sailing experience 1 year + became the highlight event of the day. The main prize of the contest is Yacht Master Offshore course. According to Alexey Panasenko, Head of the Russian Association of Yacht Skippers, “Olympiad for amateur skippers is held for the second time. The format of the event has undergone marked changes: the contest became more dynamic and interactive.” Due to it the contest became noticeable and attracted a lot of exhibition visitors who actively supported the contestants. 6 contestants from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-na-Donu and Sochi participated in the Yachting Captain inshore round this year. We are glad to note that aquatics involve not only men: two out of six contestants are girls. Participants of the Olympiad have readily answered some tens questions on the most various subjects: Navigation, Rising Tide, Sound signals, Fires and Signs, Flags, Navigating Signs. They also competed in sea knots skills and solved difficult navigation problems. Alexey Panasenko, Head of the Russian Association of Yacht Skippers, Alexander Medvedev, Yacht Master Offshore and Alexander Yermolaev, representative of the Publishing House Velikaya Reka (Great River) judged the contest.

The event's zenith became awarding ceremony for the winners of the contest of stories and slide shows about first sailing under unpretentious title My Summer Holidays 2008.

The exhibition of boats and yachts Moscow Boat Show-2009 will be open at the Crocus Expo IEC till February 15 inclusive. There are more events ahead for the guests and visitors of the show. The Conference initiated and organized by the Russian River Register Report on issues related to small vessels operation will be held February 9. Educational seminar Marine Line-up Garmin with participation of European experts will be held February 12 though 14. Alexey Panasenko, Head of the Russian Association of Yacht Skippers, will chair an open discussion about Russian yachting today's status February 13. Awarding Ceremony for the winners of the on-line photo contest Yachts! Sea! Enjoyment! will take place February 14. Consultations and advisory for yacht and boat proprietors on issues related to safe operation of vessels and vessel products and yachting school Marco Polo open classes will be held daily. The first in the world two-seater submarine will be displayed at the show.
